Policies
Our policies
How we correct mistakes, keep money out of the facts, credit photographs and fix barriers. They are short on purpose: each one says what we do and where to go if you need something from us. How figures are sourced and labeled is on the About page; what the site collects is on the privacy page.
Corrections
A wrong figure, a bad citation or a missing source is the most useful message we get. Use the contact form, say which page and what you found, and link your evidence if you have it. We check the claim against the source the page cites and against any new one you send. If we were wrong, the page is changed. If credible sources disagree, we show both figures with their sources rather than picking the most-repeated number.
Fact sheets state the date their research was last updated. A figure with no source stays labeled unknown; it is never shown as zero.
Advertising, affiliate links and independence
This site is independent. No advertiser, affiliate partner, manufacturer, club or dealer can pay to add, remove, soften or reorder a figure, a source, a disagreement or a photograph.
The site may show advertising from Google AdSense at the bottom of a page. The VIN decoder and the private pages never carry ads; the privacy page describes the cookies an ad can set. The site may also link to books or products through affiliate programs and earn a commission on a purchase. It carries no affiliate links today. If that changes, each affiliate link will be labeled as one, a link will only appear where it helps a reader check a source or find the product a page already discusses, and this page will say so.
The site is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any manufacturer. See Independence on the About page.
Photographs, credits and rights
Photographs are chosen to show the car a page describes. Where a photograph's license or its owner asks for a credit, the credit and license appear beneath the image.
If you hold the rights in a photograph, a passage or a figure here and want it credited, changed or removed, use the contact form with the category "Photo credit or rights question". Say what you hold and which page it is on, and include your email address so we can reply. If you own a photograph of one of these cars and would like to offer it, use the category "Image offer".
Accessibility
We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA. Pages are server-rendered with real headings, labeled form fields, table headers and a skip link, and they read without JavaScript. The VIN decoder is the exception: it needs JavaScript because it decodes in your browser.
Automated checks of document language, headings, labels, links and table headers run against every page. A manual review with a keyboard and a screen reader has not been done yet, so there may be barriers we have not found. If something does not work for you, tell us through the contact form under "Accessibility feedback" and say what you were trying to do.
Security reports
Please report a vulnerability privately, not through the contact form. The address is in the site's security.txt.
