What this record proves

The badge is only the beginning.

Ram Air IV is the top 1969 GTO engine at 370 advertised horsepower with a four-speed, and the one the Judge package made famous. The advertised step over Ram Air is four horsepower, which is a smaller gap than its reputation suggests.

That small advertised difference is itself the point. Period ratings were promotional instruments as much as engineering statements, and a four-horsepower spread tells a reader more about how Pontiac positioned the engines than about what they measured.

No matched instrumented test is attached, and advertised availability does not authenticate any individual car. A Ram Air IV claim on a surviving GTO needs documentation this record cannot supply.
