For 2015 Chevrolet made Magnetic Ride Control standard equipment and extended the Brembo brake package to all four corners, adding Brembo rear brakes alongside the Brembo fronts the SS already carried. The bigger change was under the shifter: a TREMEC TR6060 six-speed manual, geared with a 3.70 axle, joined the Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic and its 3.27 axle as a genuine alternative for the first time. Both transmissions sat behind the same 6.2-liter LS3 V8, SAE-certified at 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft regardless of which gearbox a buyer chose, keeping the engine's own output identical across the newly widened transmission choice.1

Choosing the manual actually saved money in 2015, an unusual reversal of the normal manual-versus-automatic price relationship: a manual SS sedan carried a reported base price of $46,740, $1,300 less than the automatic car, because the manual avoided the federal gas-guzzler tax that applied to the automatic version. That tax quirk made the more driver-focused transmission the cheaper one to buy, at least before any other options were added.2

The one model-year 2015 production figure found is 3,163, given by LSX Magazine in 2022 as GM Heritage Center production and sales data with no stated basis; the GM original was not found. The other 2015-specific number is a calendar-year sales count of 2,895 for the United States, which mixes cars from more than one model year. The 3,163 and the 2,895 are not comparable, because one is a model-year figure of unstated basis and the other a calendar-year sales count, and this record does not reconcile them or infer a stock or export gap between them. SlashGear's retrospective gives program-wide totals spanning multiple years: 12,924 SS sedans built across model years 2014 through 2017, and 2,645 of those with the six-speed manual across 2015 through 2017 alone, about one in five SS sedans built once the manual became available. None of the SlashGear figures isolates 2015, and this record does not back into a single-year number from them.3,4,5

The new rear Brembo rotors measured 360 millimeters, slightly larger than the existing 355-millimeter front rotors, a four-piston setup at all four corners once the rear upgrade arrived. Five new exterior colors joined the palette for 2015, Perfect Blue, Some Like it Hot Red, Alchemy Purple, Jungle Green, and Regal Peacock Green, while the interior stayed simpler: an all-black leather cabin was the only trim offered, with no color choice to go alongside the newly expanded exterior palette.1

Other production claims stay unconfirmed or in dispute. GM Authority's 2016-08-24 report of official 2016 figures, 2,202 built with 711 manuals, was read directly and is recorded on the 2016 page beside LSX Magazine's 2,220 for that year. A forum thread claims a full year-by-year breakdown, including 3,144 customer 2015 cars plus 24 internal GM cars and 624 manuals, but that page sits behind a paid-access wall and stays a lead; it does not match LSX Magazine's 3,163. The program total is itself contested: SlashGear's 12,924, GM Authority's 12,953 (2017) and the 12,921 sum in LSX Magazine are all held side by side, with Wikipedia's uncited 12,860 as a lead.4,6,7,5

The numbers

2015 Chevrolet SS — Magnetic Ride Control becomes standard, Brembo brakes go to all four wheels, and a TREMEC six-speed manual joins the automatic.

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-22.

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

Key facts

  • A manual 2015 SS was reported at a $46,740 base price, $1,300 less than the automatic because the manual car avoided the gas-guzzler tax.2
  • Across 2015-2017, 2,645 SS sedans were built with the manual transmission, about 20 percent of the program, as reported by SlashGear.4

Rows are separately scoped; calendar-year sales are not model-year production and the program rows span several model years.

Model-year figure added 2026-09-29: 3,163 for 2015, from LSX Magazine (2022) citing GM Heritage Center production and sales data; one secondary citation with an unstated basis. An unread forum thread (see unpublishedLeads) gives a different split, 3,144 customer cars plus 24 internal GM cars. The program total is contested three ways (see conflicts). GM Heritage Center or a GM production report by model year would settle it.

Where the sources disagree

Chevrolet SS program-wide build total, model years 2014-2017 (not a single model year)

  • 12,924 made, model years 2014 through 20174
  • 12,953 built by Holden, 2014 to 20176
  • 12,921, sum of four per-year figures (3,530 + 3,163 + 2,220 + 4,008)5

All three describe the whole program, not this model year, and none names its underlying data. They span 12,921 to 12,953 and are all kept; none is preferred. Wikipedia's uncited 12,860 remains in unpublishedLeads.
