Cautions for this scheme
- Decoded from the manufacturer's own MPV/truck VIN coding guides filed with NHTSA. The Magnum is certified as a multipurpose passenger vehicle, so it is coded in the truck/MPV guide, not the passenger-car guide that covers the 300 and Charger; position 4 is the GVWR/brake class, not a restraint code.
- Position 3 carries the side-air-bag indicator (4 = without side air bags, 8 = with side air bags).
- Only model years 2006 and 2008 are covered. A 2007 Magnum is not decoded here because no MY2007 MPV guide was found; a 2005 Magnum is outside this pack.
- A decode shows what the VIN says, not what the car is; it is not authentication.
Where the sources disagree
- Two MY2008 MPV guide revisions exist.
