1975 Buick Century Gran Sport: the endpoint
The endpoint: the Gran Sport survived only as a Century coupe trim package with the 231 V-6 or 350 V-8; no 455 was offered.
United States · researched through 2026-09-22
Buick's 1975 catalog lists the Gran Sport as option code A8 on the Century coupe, model 4AD37, a factory order code rather than a separate body or series by this point. The package included wheel-opening moldings, upgraded instrument gauges and an electric clock, a glovebox light, courtesy lights, and an ashtray light, specific rallye handling with a firm ride, a distinct grille and headlamp treatment, GS accent stripes, and GS ornamentation, a combination of cosmetic and handling content rather than any engine or drivetrain change of its own. The 3.8-liter, 231-cu-in V-6 was standard on Century coupes generally, with the 350-cu-in V-8 available in two-barrel or four-barrel form; this record's own overview states directly that no 455 was offered for the year, leaving the 350 as the largest engine a Gran Sport buyer could specify.
No sourced Gran Sport-specific production figure was found for 1975. The Century two-door Colonnade coupe, the Gran Sport's host body, is given at 39,556 across all trims, a figure this record's own production note describes as including non-Gran-Sport cars rather than as a package-specific count, since no separate Gran Sport figure was found in any citable source that states its own origin. A Wikipedia table does show a 1975 total of 1,288, but this record's own production note is explicit that the figure comes without a checkable source behind it, so it is held only as an unpublished lead rather than entered as a reported production figure alongside the host-body total, and this record does not attempt to verify it against the Century coupe's own 39,556-unit total.1
The Gran Sport package itself is priced at $171 according to Hemmings, the only price recorded for the year in this record. Neither engine carries a rating in this record: the 231-cu-in V-6's own note states that the catalog's induction description was not transcribed and that no ratings were recorded from it, and the 350-cu-in V-8, available except on the Century Special, carries the same gap, leaving both of the year's engines documented only by displacement and carburetor configuration rather than by any horsepower or torque figure. Two transmissions are documented: a three-speed manual, standard on Century coupes and sedans but only with the V-6, and a Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic, optional across the line regardless of engine.2
Twenty-two exterior paint codes are charted from a Buick-line 1975 list, from Arctic White and Silver Mist through Pumpkin, with several marked as iridescent finishes among the mid-range and darker colors. This record's own paint note explains that three further codes on the same source page, 18, 28, and 57, are marked Riviera-only and excluded here as out of scope for this subject, and that a separate list matches molding colors to nine specific vinyl-roof colors: 11, 13, 19, 28, 44, 55, 68, 74, and 75. The Century coupe's wheelbase is given as 112 in, the only specification value recorded for the year. No interior trim codes, no identification detail, and no performance-test data were found in an accessible documented source for this, the final year of the Gran Sport on the Century platform, leaving this record's coverage limited to the package content, its price, the two engines' bare specifications, and the paint and dimension data already described.1

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-22.
Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

No sourced production figure. Wikipedia's table shows a 1975 total of 1,288 without a checkable source; it is held as a lead. A 2026-09-29 search found the same 1,288 only as a repeat of Wikipedia (Barn Finds names Wikipedia as its source) and found no Buick, Hemmings or Standard Catalog page stating a 1975 Century Gran Sport count. Ate Up With Motor's notes name Pat Harmon's 1973-1975 Buick Century Gran Sport Registry, which may hold a count but was not found online. A registry count or a readable Standard Catalog 1975 Century entry would close this gap.
