Wikipedia's own account, this record's overview states, records that for 1991 a 200-horsepower version of the 302 (5.0-litre) Windsor V8 was introduced in the Cougar, and that the 1992 25th Anniversary cars were all green with a tan interior, both facts this record's own overview carries forward unchanged from the prior two years. Total 1993 production reached 79,700 cars, this record's own dek and production table agree, with Wikipedia and the AEROCATS site giving the identical figure this year rather than the competing totals the 1990-1992 records each carried, though this record's own note still explains that the figure rests on a single tertiary source whose underlying record is not stated; this record's own key facts section is empty for the year.1,2

Two engines are documented for 1993, this record's own engine table shows: a 3.8-litre (232 cubic-inch) V6 with sequential multi-port fuel injection, standard and rated 140 horsepower at 3,800 rpm with 215 lb-ft of torque at 2,400 rpm, and a 5.0-litre (302 cubic-inch) V8 with sequential multi-port fuel injection, optional and rated 200 horsepower at 4,000 rpm with 275 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm, both ratings now given without the separate LS and XR7 split this record's own engine table carried through 1992. This record's own transmissions section is left entirely empty for the year, as it was in 1991 and 1992.2

This record's own options section itemizes 34 entries, every one now scoped only to a single "X" designation rather than the LS/XR7 split this record's own matrix carried through 1992, reflecting the two trims' consolidation this year. A multi-sport roof rack for skis, bicycles or water sports and a separate luggage rack appear as new dealer accessories, the keyless entry system's own description now adds a remote hand-held transmitter, and a full electronic instrument cluster is documented with an LCD digital speedometer, odometer, trip odometer, tachometer, oil pressure, coolant and voltage gauges, a fuel gauge, speed-warning and service-interval reminders, and a fuel/distance computer. Only one Preferred Equipment Package is documented this year, code 260A, down from the five separate LS and XR7 packages this record's own matrix carried in 1992.2

This record's own paint table carries 11 colour entries for 1993, all clearcoat and none split into a separate XR7 monochromatic table as in prior years: Oxford White, Black, Mocha Frost Metallic, Electric Red Metallic, Crystal Blue Metallic, Twilight Blue Metallic, Cayman Green Metallic, Dark Plum Metallic, Midnight Opal Metallic and Silver Metallic, plus Sunrise Red Metallic carrying the source's own "late availability" note. Thirteen interior descriptions are carried by an again-revised trim-code scheme, this record's own interiors section shows: seven first-character seat-type codes and six second-character colour codes, Opal Grey, Ruby Red, Mocha, Ebony, Crystal Blue and a combination code for White or Opal Grey with Ebony trim.2

This record's own specifications section carries nine 1993 figures: a 113.0-inch wheelbase, a 199.9-inch overall length, a 72.7-inch overall width, a 52.7-inch overall height, 18.0 gallons of fuel capacity, 15.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity, curb weights of 3,512 pounds with the V6 and 3,666 with the V8, now split by engine rather than by trim, 10.8-inch front discs against 9.8-inch rear drums or 10.0-inch rear discs with the optional anti-lock system, and an engine summary repeating both ratings.2

This record carries no 1993 price at all; its own price notes explain the same removed J.D. Power figure described for other years, and that no replacement source has yet been found to stand behind. No performance figures, identification codes, documented conflicts or unpublished leads survive in this record's own respective sections either, consistent with this record's own production notes describing 1993 as outside the 1967-1973 muscle focus the record otherwise covers in depth.2

The numbers

1993 Mercury Cougar — Outside the muscle focus: 79,700 Cougars for 1993 per Wikipedia's table.

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-22.

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

Prices when new *

No price is shown here. One was, until 2026-09-24: a figure from J.D. Power's live valuation pages, pulled from every page on this site because those pages can change without our knowing and we have no way to check them independently. We haven't found a source we can stand behind to put in its place yet. A price for this car elsewhere that looks suspiciously exact may be quoting that same J.D. Power figure rather than confirming it — several sites we checked turned out to be doing exactly that, without saying so.

Same model year

Also in 1993

  • Buick Riviera An abbreviated final year for this generation: 4,440 or 4,555 built.
  • Ford Taurus SHO The automatic arrives with a 3.2-liter version of the SHO V6, and production more than doubles: about four of every five 1993 SHOs were automatics.
  • Ford Thunderbird All Thunderbirds took the Super Coupe front fascia; SC volume kept falling.
  • Pontiac Firebird and Trans Am A new, LT1-powered fourth generation in a short first year: 14,112 Firebirds.
  • Pontiac Grand Prix The 3.4 twin-cam continues as the performance engine.
