1994 Mercury Cougar: Outside the Muscle Focus
Outside the muscle focus: 71,026 Cougars for 1994 per Wikipedia's table.
United States · researched through 2026-09-22
Wikipedia's own account, this record's overview states, records that the 1994 Cougar shifted from the 302 V8 to a 205-horsepower 4.6-litre SOHC V8, and that the 1997 30th Anniversary Cougar used Lincoln Mark VIII wheels and model-specific C-pillar emblems. Total 1994 production reached 71,026 cars, this record's own dek and production table agree, with Wikipedia and the AEROCATS site giving the identical figure, though this record's own note still explains that it rests on a single tertiary source whose underlying record is not stated; this record's own key facts section is empty for the year.1,2
Two engines are documented for 1994, this record's own engine table shows: a 3.8-litre (232 cubic-inch) V6 with sequential multi-port fuel injection, standard and rated 140 horsepower at 3,800 rpm with 215 lb-ft of torque at 2,400 rpm, and a 4.6-litre SOHC V8 of 281 cubic inches, optional and rated 205 horsepower at 4,500 rpm with 265 lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm, this new engine replacing the 302 V8 the record carried through 1993 and matching Wikipedia's own sentence in the overview exactly. This record's own transmissions section is left entirely empty for the year.2
This record's own options section itemizes 27 entries: an Electronic Traction Assist option requiring ABS is new for 1994, alongside a hands-free cellular phone and a CFC-free electronic automatic climate control, both carrying the source's own footnote symbols in their names. The Ford JBL audio system's own description now states that it includes the premium radio and the trunk-mounted 10-CD changer together, where those were separate items in prior years. Only one Preferred Equipment Package is documented, code 260A, bundling illuminated entry, speed control, the defroster, the power lock group, luxury cast aluminum wheels, floor mats, a leather-wrapped wheel, a 6-way power seat and the light group.2
This record's own paint table carries 13 colour entries for 1994, all clearcoat: richer designer names debut this year among them, Champagne (Light Saddle) Metallic, White Opalescent Metallic marked by the source's own text as a Tricoat finish, Royal Blue Opalescent Metallic, Deep Iris Clearcoat and Teal Metallic Clearcoat, alongside Vibrant (Performance) White, Opal Frost Metallic, Light Evergreen Frost Metallic, Deep Jewel Green Metallic, Moonlight Blue Metallic, Indigo Metallic, Electric Red Metallic and Black (Ebony) Clearcoat.2
Nine interior descriptions are carried by trim code, this record's own interiors section shows: three first-character seat-type codes, including a new Luxury cloth-and-leather code, and six second-character colour codes, Opal Grey, Ruby Red, Mocha, Portofino Blue, Evergreen and White Opalescent, the last one noted as available on a feature car only. This record's own specifications section carries nine 1994 figures: a 113.0-inch wheelbase, a 199.9-inch overall length, a 72.7-inch overall width, a 52.5-inch overall height, down from 52.7 in prior years, 18.0 gallons of fuel capacity, 15.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity, curb weights of 3,564 pounds with the V6 and 3,726 with the V8, and unchanged 10.8-inch front discs against 9.8-inch rear drums or 10.0-inch rear discs with anti-lock.2
This record carries no 1994 price at all, its own price notes explaining the same removed J.D. Power figure described for other years, and no performance figures, identification codes, documented conflicts or unpublished leads survive in their respective sections either, consistent with this record's own production notes describing 1994 as outside the 1967-1973 muscle focus the record otherwise covers in depth.2

The numbers
1994 Mercury Cougar — Outside the muscle focus: 71,026 Cougars for 1994 per Wikipedia's table.
Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-22.
Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

These years are outside the 1967-1973 muscle focus; the record carries only totals and configuration context.
Prices when new *
No price is shown here. One was, until 2026-09-24: a figure from J.D. Power's live valuation pages, pulled from every page on this site because those pages can change without our knowing and we have no way to check them independently. We haven't found a source we can stand behind to put in its place yet. A price for this car elsewhere that looks suspiciously exact may be quoting that same J.D. Power figure rather than confirming it — several sites we checked turned out to be doing exactly that, without saying so.
