Production rose to 128,304 Firebirds in 1984, a figure this record's own overview calls the third generation's best year in its compiled table. Compiled production splits 55,374 of that total as Trans Ams, the key fact this record leads with, against 62,621 base Firebirds and 10,309 S/E cars making up the remainder. Every figure comes from a MuscleCarClub production table that, per this record's own production notes, does not name its underlying source, leaving all three model rows on record as a single, uncorroborated lineage rather than a cross-checked total.1

Within the Trans Am total, this record's own production rows carry two separately sourced package figures from the Austin Thirdgen Organization's tech-data compilation: 1,321 cars with the Recaro option and 1,500 with the 15th Anniversary Trans Am package. Both figures are flagged as uncited club numbers already included within the 55,374-car Trans Am total rather than added on top of it, and the 15th Anniversary figure in particular carries no engine, color or transmission breakdown in any source this record has read.2

This record's own production notes state plainly that no engine, transmission, paint or package counts beyond these two package rows were found in any readable source for the year, and separately note that the Pontiac Trans Am Page repeats the same three model figures but labels the S/E column "Formula" instead, a labeling difference not treated as an independent source. This record carries no price section for 1984, either; its own price notes explain that a prior J.D. Power valuation figure was pulled because those live pages can change without notice and cannot be independently checked.1

Five engines are documented: the 2.5-liter four-cylinder at 92 hp and 134 lb-ft, standard on base Firebird; the 2.8-liter V-6 at 107 hp; the 2.8 HO V-6 at 125 hp reserved for the S/E; the 5.0-liter (305) four-barrel at 150 hp standard on Trans Am; and the L69 5.0 HO V-8 at 190 hp and 240 lb-ft as a Trans Am option, all five rated to the same net standard as compiled by MuscleCarClub. Notably, this record's own engine table carries no Cross-Fire Injection entry among those five rows for 1984, a gap the table does not explain or footnote.1

No transmission, option, paint or interior detail survives in this record's own tables for 1984; all four of those sections are left empty, consistent with the production notes' own statement that no such source was found for the year. No shipping weights, dimensions, factory-test performance figures, identification details, documented conflicts or unpublished leads survive in this record's own specifications, performance, identification, conflicts and unpublished-leads sections either, all five also left empty.1

What the record documents in full is the third generation's peak production year: three hatchback models resolving to 128,304 Firebirds and 55,374 Trans Ams, five engines spanning four-cylinder economy power up through the 190-hp L69, and two milestone Trans Am packages, Recaro and 15th Anniversary, whose 1,321-car and 1,500-car counts this record keeps as uncited club figures nested inside its own larger, better-sourced production total.1

Prices when new *

No price is shown here. One was, until 2026-09-24: a figure from J.D. Power's live valuation pages, pulled from every page on this site because those pages can change without our knowing and we have no way to check them independently. We haven't found a source we can stand behind to put in its place yet. A price for this car elsewhere that looks suspiciously exact may be quoting that same J.D. Power figure rather than confirming it — several sites we checked turned out to be doing exactly that, without saying so.
