The ASC McLaren Capri conversions began for 1984, though the two sources in this record disagree on the combined 1984-1986 total: Classic Industries gives 290 coupes and 557 convertibles, summing to 847, while Wikipedia's own ASC McLaren table gives 874; this record shows both without correcting either, noting only that the digits may be transposed in one of them. Neither source breaks the combined three-year figure down by individual model year, so this record does not attempt to isolate a 1984-only ASC McLaren count from either total. Classic Industries separately lists a charcoal Turbo RS among the 1984 special editions, with no production count found for it. No sourced production figure was found for the 1984 Capri line generally, and no price is carried in this record either: one drawn from J.D. Power's live valuation pages was removed across this project on 2026-09-24 because those pages can change without notice and cannot be independently checked, and no source this record can stand behind has yet been found to replace it.1,2

Eleven exterior colors were charted. Black, Silver Metallic, Light Canyon Red, and Oxford White were shared between the GS and RS; Dark Academy Blue Metallic and Light Desert Tan were GS-only standard colors. Four further "Glamour" metallic colors were optional: Medium Canyon Red on both GS and RS, and Light Academy Blue, Bright Copper, and Desert Tan on the GS alone. Dark Charcoal Metallic is listed as the sole exterior color for the Turbo RS specifically, distinct from every color available on the GS or plain RS.

Interior colors differed by trim: the GS offered Canyon Red, Academy Blue, Desert Tan, and Charcoal, while the RS and Turbo RS shared a narrower set of Canyon Red, Charcoal, and Desert Tan, without the Academy Blue the GS carried. No fabric, vinyl, or leather material distinction between these interior colors was found in the source excerpted here, only the color names themselves, and no seat style (bucket versus bench, high-back versus low-back) is stated alongside them either.

The Capri measured 179.1 in overall on a 100.0-inch wheelbase, 69.1 in wide and 51.9 in tall, with a 37.36-foot turning diameter, a 56.6/57.0-inch front/rear wheel tread, 32.5 cu ft of cargo volume with the rear seat folded, a 15.4-gallon fuel tank, and a base curb weight of 2,743 lb in the 49 states. All of these figures are drawn from a single brochure specifications panel and are marked as applying to the range generally rather than broken out by trim or engine, so no separate figure for the Turbo RS, GS, or the ASC McLaren conversions is carried here.

No engine, transmission, or options listing was found in an accessible documented source for 1984 beyond the ASC McLaren and Turbo RS special-edition mentions carried in the overview, so those three sections are not populated in this record for the year; a Ford production report, a period Capri specifications sheet, or the Mercury section of a Standard Catalog of American Cars would be needed to close that gap alongside the still-unreconciled ASC McLaren production totals.1

The numbers

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-22.

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

Prices when new *

No price is shown here. One was, until 2026-09-24: a figure from J.D. Power's live valuation pages, pulled from every page on this site because those pages can change without our knowing and we have no way to check them independently. We haven't found a source we can stand behind to put in its place yet. A price for this car elsewhere that looks suspiciously exact may be quoting that same J.D. Power figure rather than confirming it — several sites we checked turned out to be doing exactly that, without saying so.
