This record's own dek states that an auction catalogue reports 12,462 of 1977's 21,850 Rancheros as GTs, a figure this record notes plainly that no primary Ford record read in this pass confirms. Wikipedia records that Ranchero production ended in 1979, with a commemorative 1979 1/2 model among the choices, but this record's own overview states that no sourced GT production or configuration detail for 1977 specifically was found in this research pass beyond that single auction figure.1,2

This record's own conflicts section carries the total-production figure as a genuine dispute: RM Sotheby's own auction-lot description gives 21,850 Rancheros for the year, a figure with no named origin of its own, while the three forum-posted series figures for GT, 500 and Squire sum to 23,041 instead, 1,191 more than the auction total. This record's own treatment keeps the 21,850 figure in the production table while leaving the forum's series breakdown in unpublished leads rather than a sourced row, and states plainly that the gap between the two totals is unexplained by any source consulted. The GT figure itself, 12,462, appears identically in both the auction description and the forum post, which this record's own note describes as probably one underlying lineage rather than independent corroboration.1

This record's own paint section carries a documented methodological note distinct from earlier years: the twenty-six colors listed come from the 1977 Ford Cars palette, since hdpaintcode.com's 1977 truck-side listing breaks out by individual model, Bronco, Econoline, F-100 through F-600 and others, with no Ranchero entry among them at all, a change this record attributes to the Ranchero being built on the LTD II passenger platform by 1977 rather than any truck line. This record also states that no wheelbase figure is recorded for the year, unlike every earlier generation covered in this same record, since Wikipedia does not give one for the seventh generation and this record declines to borrow an LTD II coupe or sedan figure that is not confirmed Ranchero-specific.3

This record's price section carries the same editorial note found elsewhere in this record: a J.D. Power-sourced figure was removed as of September 24, 2026, since those live valuation pages cannot be independently verified, and no replacement source this record can stand behind has yet been found. Beyond production, paint and that price caveat, this record's engines, transmissions, options, interiors, specifications, performance and identification sections are all empty for 1977, a broad and explicitly documented gap for the year.1

A single unpublished lead repeats the ranchero.us forum's own series breakdown: 12,462 GT, 9,453 Ranchero 500 and 1,126 Squire, naming no source beyond the usual attribution to the Standard Catalog of American Light-Duty Trucks, which this record's research could not read directly to confirm. This record does not adopt the 500 or Squire figures from that post into its own production table, since only the GT and total rows carry a named secondary source of their own, leaving the plain 500 and Squire counts for 1977 as unpublished leads rather than sourced production figures anywhere in this record.1

1977 Ford Ranchero GT — An auction catalogue reports 12,462 of 1977's 21,850 Rancheros as GTs, a figure no primary Ford record read here confirms.

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-23.

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

Prices when new *

No price is shown here. One was, until 2026-09-24: a figure from J.D. Power's live valuation pages, pulled from every page on this site because those pages can change without our knowing and we have no way to check them independently. We haven't found a source we can stand behind to put in its place yet. A price for this car elsewhere that looks suspiciously exact may be quoting that same J.D. Power figure rather than confirming it — several sites we checked turned out to be doing exactly that, without saying so.

  • 23,041 implied by the forum-posted series figures (GT 12,462; 500 9,453; Squire 1,126)1

The table shows the 21,850 total as reported by the auction catalogue and the GT figure both sources share; the forum series figures stay in unpublishedLeads. The gap is unexplained.
