The 1965 Starfire moved to a new 425-cubic-inch V-8 and the three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic, and for the first time a four-speed manual with floor shift was catalogued as an option, though it was rarely ordered against the standard automatic. Over-Drive's production table shows 13,024 sports coupes at a listed $4,148 and 2,236 convertibles at $4,778, for a series total of 15,260 units, continuing the decline from the car's early-1960s production peak.1,2

The 425's output rating carries an open, layered conflict across four sources. Oldsmobile's own AMA specification sheet and the February 1965 Models-Equipment-Prices book agree with each other at 370 hp at 4,800 rpm and 470 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm, so that factory-sourced figure leads the record. Over-Drive's article instead prints 370 hp at 4,400 rpm, matching the horsepower number but not the rpm, while Wikipedia's 1965 subsection gives 375 hp at 4,800 rpm, matching the rpm but not the horsepower; both are kept as attributed variants rather than folded into the leading figure, since neither can be confirmed against the two factory documents.3,1,2

The four-speed manual, when ordered, deducted $10.76 from the price of the standard Turbo Hydra-Matic car per the factory price book's M20 listing, while a heavy-duty Turbo Hydra-Matic (M41) added $16.14 for buyers who kept the automatic. Standard axle ratio was 3.23:1 for either transmission, with a 3.42:1 performance ratio optional behind the automatic. The coupe's factory curb weight is listed at 4,323 lb (2,297 lb front, 2,026 lb rear) against 4,402 lb for the convertible (2,339 front, 2,063 rear), both riding a 123-inch wheelbase with an overall length of 216.9 inches, width of 80.0 inches, and a 62.5-inch front / 63.0-inch rear tread. Shipping (licensing) weights came in lighter than curb weight on both bodies, 4,132 lb for the coupe and 4,211 lb for the convertible, the February 1965 price book's basic specifications matching the coupe figure exactly. Standard tires were 8.25 x 14 on the coupe and 8.55 x 14 whitewall on the convertible per the price book, a size the AMA sheet also lists for the coupe.3

Two figures for the same trunk diverge within the file itself: the AMA specification sheet lists 19.4 cubic feet of usable luggage capacity for the coupe, while the February 1965 price book's own basic specifications instead give 17.1 cubic feet usable and 39.5 cubic feet total, a discrepancy the record carries without resolving in favor of either factory document. Other basic specifications from that same price book include a 25.0-gallon fuel tank, a 43.6-foot turning diameter, and 11.0-inch brake drums with 208.6 square inches of total lining area.3

Starfire buyers chose leather-and-Morocceen interior trim in black, sterling, blue, fawn, red, or parchment white, each paired with a list of recommended exterior colors in the factory price book, and Oldsmobile's literature more generally described Starfire upholstery as available in vinyl, leather, or cloth. The options list ran from a $43.04 Tilt-Away steering column and a $430.40 Four-Season air conditioner bundling oversize tires and other heavy-duty cooling equipment, down to small items like $10.71 back-up lamps and a $5.38 spare-tire lock, alongside three radio choices topping out at $150.64 for AM-FM reception.1

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-23.

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

  • 375 hp @ 48002

Both shown; no rating entered pending the 1965 AMA specifications.

  • 370 hp @ 4800, 470 lb-ft @ 32003
  • 370 hp @ 44001

The AMA sheet (10-12-64) and the February 1965 price book agree on 370 hp @ 4800 and 470 lb-ft @ 3200; that rating now leads. Over-Drive's rpm and Wikipedia's 375 hp are kept as attributed variants.
