For 1965 the Cyclone was Mercury's performance Comet hardtop, standard with a vinyl roof, chrome wheels, bucket seats with a console, a tachometer, heavy-duty suspension, and the 225-hp 289 four-barrel. Over-Drive Magazine's compilation and Wikipedia's own relay of Holder and Kunz both give 12,347 Cyclone hardtops, a figure repeated across four citations in this record that may nonetheless trace back to one underlying lineage rather than independent counts. For context, an Over-Drive Magazine mid-size production table gives 165,052 for the whole 1965 Mercury mid-size line (Comet 202, 404, Caliente, and Cyclone combined), against conceptcarz's separate total of 159,826 for all 1965 Comets; the two lists differ specifically in the 404 wagon row, 5,226 against 1,592 for the Villager alone. A factory price of $2,625 is carried for the Cyclone hardtop, tabulated by Over-Drive Magazine without a stated pricing basis.1,2,3,4

The standard 289 four-barrel is rated 225 hp at 4,800 rpm and 305 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm, SAE gross. The K-code 289 High Performance four-barrel, rated 271 hp at 6,000 rpm and 312 lb-ft at 3,400 rpm, was special order only rather than a catalog option, and no count of K-code installations was found in an accessible documented source. A four-speed manual was optional, V8 only, and a Merc-O-Matic three-speed automatic was optional as well.1

NHRA's own funny-car history notes that factory-backed Mustangs and Cyclones fitted with 427 SOHC engines raced in mid-1965; this record treats those specifically as competition cars rather than showroom configurations, since no 427 SOHC option appears in the Cyclone's own engines listing here, and neither engine documented for the year, the standard four-barrel or the special-order K-code, is the 427 SOHC the racing history describes.5

The options list, compiled for the full mid-size line with applicability to the Cyclone as worded, priced items including a $40 Rally Pac, a $75.80 vinyl roof on the hardtop, $43.20 wire wheel covers specifically on the Cyclone, a $20.80 performance handling package, $86.30 power steering, $43.20 power brakes, and $257.50 air conditioning. Smaller items ran from a $4.50 pair of padded visors and a $7.10 set of retractable front seat belts up to a $129.30 AM/FM radio and a $131.30 front bucket seat and console option specifically worded for the Caliente hardtop and convertible rather than the Cyclone. A tachometer is separately listed among these priced options at $43.10 under the heading "standard Cyclone," which sits awkwardly next to the overview's own statement that a tachometer was standard equipment, so this record carries both as found rather than reconciling the apparent tension between "standard" and a priced line item.1

Nineteen exterior colors were charted, from Ocean Turquoise and Yellow Mist through Polar White, Burgundy, and Blue Ice, each with its own single-letter or single-digit paint code. The Cyclone measured 195.3 in overall on a 114.0-inch wheelbase (109.5 in for wagons), with a hardtop height of 53.5 in and a shipping weight of 2,994 lb per the Over-Drive Magazine table. No interior trim or upholstery color listing, and no performance-test or identification/data-plate detail, was found in an accessible documented source for the year, so those sections carry nothing further in this record.1,3

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.
