Wikipedia treats 1963 through 1965 as the first Marauder generation, offered as two-door and four-door hardtops with the 390 standard, and states that Mercury had discontinued the S-series line entirely after 1963, leaving Marauder as the surviving performance-associated trim on the full-size range once the S-55 nameplate disappeared from Mercury's lineup entirely. A later research pass specifically located mercurystuff.com's own 1965 model, price, and production table, which gives a combined 74,590 Marauder-roof cars across Monterey, Montclair, and Park Lane in both two-door and four-door form, a discovery this record's own overview describes as closing production and price gaps the record had previously carried for the year, and the same table's role as the source for every price and production figure below reflects how central that single find was to this year's coverage.1,2,3

For 1965 every full-size Mercury hardtop coupe used the same slant-back Marauder roofline, and Marauder itself had become a trim option rather than a distinct body style, so this record's own production rows are careful to note that most of them count the body style generally rather than Marauder-trimmed cars specifically, a distinction that matters for anyone trying to size the population of genuinely Marauder-optioned 1965 cars rather than the wider slant-back-roof fleet. Those body counts run 16,857 Monterey two-door fastbacks, 10,047 Monterey four-door hardtops, 6,853 Park Lane two-door fastbacks, 14,211 Park Lane four-door hardtops, 9,645 Montclair two-door fastbacks, and 16,977 Montclair four-door fastbacks, summing to the 74,590 total that mercurystuff.com itself states directly as the combined figure across all three series. This record's own production note is explicit that no count of cars actually carrying the Marauder trim option specifically, as distinct from the slant-back fastback body it was offered on, was found in any source consulted, so the body-style totals above should be read as an upper bound on Marauder-trimmed production rather than a confirmed count of the option itself.4,3

Prices are documented for all six of the same body-and-series combinations: $2,843 for the Monterey two-door fastback, $2,918 for the Monterey four-door, $3,072 for the Montclair two-door, $3,145 for the Montclair four-door, $3,299 for the Park Lane two-door, and $3,375 for the Park Lane four-door, continuing the same steady price ladder from Monterey up through Park Lane that this record documents across body styles and series alike, with the gap between the least and most expensive of the six combinations running to several hundred dollars.3

Ford's own 1965 brochure, form M65-110 and marketing material, now supplies the engine ratings this record previously lacked, under the heading Peak Performance with Improved Marauder Engines, and they are carried in the specifications section. The 390 V-8 appears at 250 hp, standard on Montclair, Monterey and the wagons, and at 266 hp with Multi-Drive Merc-O-Matic in the Montclair and Colony Park. The Super 390 is rated 300 hp and is standard on the Park Lane, the Interceptor 390 is 330 hp, and the Super 427 is 425 hp with a 4-speed manual only. The engines and transmissions sections still hold no entries, and this record does not fill them by assuming carryover from 1964.

The brochure's options and accessories spread lists fifteen items under Personalize for Pleasure, three wheel covers under Touches of Elegance and thirty-four more under Plus, with standard-on notes for the Park Lane, Montclair and Colony Park. It shows seventeen solid exterior colors and twenty-six two-tone combinations, a matrix of six cloth-and-vinyl and seven all-vinyl interiors, and dimensions, capacities and brake, tire and suspension data. It does not use Marauder as a body-style name, only as the name of the engines, which fits this record's note that Marauder had become a trim rather than a distinct body, so the specifications are scoped to the full-size line rather than to a Marauder body.

The brochure states no prices and no option or paint codes, so every option carries a null price and no code, and as a sales document it shows what was offered rather than what was built. The listed dimensions are given by body style for the whole full-size line, not for the Marauder specifically, and no count of cars carrying the Marauder roof and a given engine, or any performance-test or identification detail, was found. Those remain unrecorded rather than estimated from the year before, and this record still cannot say which of the listed engines any particular Marauder-roof car carried.

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-22.

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

Totals
What was countedCountBasisStatus
All 1965 Marauders (Monterey, Montclair, Park Lane)3 Monterey, Montclair, Park Lane Marauder · 2-door and 4-door hardtop fastback · as published Sum of the Monterey fastback 2-door (16,857), Monterey fastback 4-door (10,047), Montclair fastback 2-door (9,645), Montclair fastback 4-door (16,977), Park Lane fastback 2-door (6,853) and Park Lane fastback 4-door (14,211) rows above; mercurystuff.com states this same 74,590 combined total directly. For 1965 every full-size Mercury hardtop coupe used the slant-back Marauder roof and Marauder was a trim option rather than a distinct body, so this total counts cars on that roof across all three series, per the same convention as the body rows above. 74,590 built, model-year Reported

A 2026-09-25 pass added the Montclair rows and an all-series total from mercurystuff.com, which states 74,590 as the combined 1965 Marauder-roof total; conceptcarz, used for the Monterey and Park Lane rows, has no 1965 Montclair page, and its Monterey/Park Lane figures match the existing conceptcarz-sourced rows exactly.

No count of 1965 cars carrying the Marauder trim option specifically (as opposed to the fastback body it was offered on) was found.
