For 1964 the 425-cubic-inch V-8, rated 340 gross horsepower, became the Riviera's standard engine, this record's own overview states. A dual four-barrel version, the Super Wildcat rated 360 horsepower, joined as a new option, and the three-speed Super Turbine 400 automatic replaced the twin-turbine unit the car had launched with. Over-Drive's own fact sheet lists a factory price of $4,385 and production of 37,958 for the year.1

This record's own production table carries two competing totals for 1964: 37,958, from Over-Drive and from Wikipedia's own table, which the latter credits to Gunnell's 1987 Standard Catalog, against 37,658 from the Riviera Owners Association. This record's own conflicts section shows both without resolving which is correct. The ROA figure is not an isolated guess, though: its own engine-count breakdown, 35,536 cars with the standard 340-horsepower engine and 2,122 with the Super Wildcat, sums exactly to its 37,658 total, a reconciliation this record's own production notes point out directly. A separate price conflict runs alongside it, Over-Drive's $4,385 factory price against the Riviera Owners Association's own $4,374 suggested retail, with neither source's basis or date reconciled against the other.1,2,3,4

This record's own identification section carries Buick's 1964 engine codes: KW for the standard 425 at 340 horsepower with 10.25:1 compression, and KX for the dual-carburetor Super Wildcat at 360 horsepower. The 2,122 KX-coded cars, this record's key facts section notes, carried no special ornamentation of their own, and the Owners Association says they are often mistaken today for Gran Sports, a name Riviera had not yet applied to any car in 1964. The same identification section also carries the year's VIN scheme: a series digit (7 for Riviera), a model-year letter (K for 1964), a plant code drawn from eight assembly points, and a six-digit sequence number starting at 001001.5,4,6

This record's own options section itemizes the Buick order-code list the Riviera Owners Association transcribed for the year, priced item by item: cruise control, a tilt steering wheel, cornering lights, a four-way power seat, an automatic trunk release, a deluxe wood-rim steering wheel, air conditioning at $430, wire and cast-aluminum wheel covers, and dozens more down to a no-charge optional wheel colour. This record's own key facts section quotes a $56.97 cruise-control price from the Owners Association's own Evolution article, while the options list itself, drawn from a separate Owners Association page, gives $64.50 for the same item, a discrepancy neither ROA source reconciles.7,4

This record's own specifications section carries eight 1964 figures, all from the Owners Association's weights-and-measures table except where Over-Drive is named: a 117.0-inch wheelbase, a 208.0-inch overall length, a 76.6-inch width, a 53.0-inch height, front and rear track of 60.0 and 59.0 inches, a 3.07:1 standard axle ratio, standard and optional tire sizes of 7.10x15 and 7.60x15, a 3,951-pound shipping weight from Over-Drive's own production table, and a 4,200-pound curb weight the Owners Association carries on a different basis.8,1

This record's own paint table carries 15 colours from the Owners Association's 1964 chart, from Regal Black and Arctic White through Sunburst Yellow, Claret Mist and Diplomat Blue, and its interiors section carries twelve trims, five standard vinyl colours and seven custom cloth-and-vinyl or vinyl-only combinations the chart marks as optional. This record's own unpublished-leads section carries one item forward without asserting it: a Car and Driver road test of the 1964 Riviera from December 1963, flagged only as not yet read, an eight-megabyte scan the record's own reason field says has not been examined.9

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-22.

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.
