1967 Ford Galaxie 500 two-door hardtop Ford Motor Company Archives

1967 was the last year of Ford's approved Galaxie performance range as this record tracks it: the 7-Litre quietly disappeared from the line, while the 428 and a 425 hp 427 remained on the order form alongside a 315 hp 390. Galaxie 500 XL hardtop production is reported at 18,174, but the fact sheet's own convertible figure is printed as the evident typographical error "5,1621"; the record instead draws the convertible count, 5,161, from the site's separate production table, which combines with the hardtop figure to give a reconciled XL series total of 23,335.1,2

That 500 XL total of 23,335 sits alongside a Galaxie 500 series total of 403,606, built from 197,388 fastback hardtops, 130,063 four-door sedans, 57,087 four-door hardtops, and 19,068 convertibles. The LTD line's own series total is reported separately at 64,469, while individual LTD body-style figures are also given on their own: 46,036 two-door hardtops, 12,491 four-door sedans, and 51,978 four-door hardtops. All 1967 full-size Ford production reached 766,622, a figure whose own source table carries an unrelated typo in its title, reading "19676" for 1967.1,2

List prices ran from $3,243 for the Galaxie 500 XL hardtop and $3,493 for the XL convertible, down to $2,732 for a six-cylinder Galaxie 500 four-door sedan and $2,838 with a V8; the LTD two-door hardtop, four-door hardtop, and four-door sedan listed at $3,362, $3,363, and $3,298 respectively. The 390 made 315 hp at 4,600 rpm and 427 lb-ft at 2,800 rpm; the 428 made 345 hp at 4,600 rpm and 462 lb-ft at 2,800 rpm, with a 360 hp, 459 lb-ft Police Interceptor tune; and the 427 made 425 hp at 6,000 rpm and 480 lb-ft at 3,700 rpm, though the source did not return its induction detail. A separate 427 four-barrel entry lists 410 hp at 5,600 rpm and 476 lb-ft at 3,400 rpm with a four-speed required, alongside the 425 hp version in the same engines list.2,1

Engine options were priced individually: $305 for the 428, $265 for the 390 at 315 hp (dropping to $158 in the XL and LTD), $184 for a lower 390 tune at 275 hp ($78 in the XL), and $107 for the 289 at 200 hp, standard in the 500 XL and LTD. The standard three-speed manual carried 2.42/1.61/1.00 gearing with the 390 and 428, while the $184 four-speed ran 2.32/1.69/1.29 with those same engines and offered close (2.22) or wide (2.32/1.54/1.23) ratio sets for the 427; Cruise-O-Matic, not available with the 427, ran from $188 to $220 depending on engine, and a three-speed manual with overdrive ran $118.1

On a 119-inch wheelbase, the 1967 Ford measured 213.0 inches long and 79.0 inches wide, with an equal 62.0-inch front and rear track and overall heights of 54.7 inches for hardtops and 54.8 inches for the convertible. Shipping weight with the V8 ran 3,522 lb for the Galaxie 500 fastback hardtop, 3,594 lb for the Galaxie 500 XL hardtop, and 3,704 lb for the XL convertible. Standard tires on 390 and 428 cars were 8.45 x 15, with G70x15, R205x15, or R215x15 optional. The paint chart's own listing carries several anomalies: colors named Aspen Red, Winter Park Turquoise, and Gold appear without a code letter, Engine Blue is listed twice without a code, and two colors, Blue and Playboy Pink, carry special-order codes (WT8048 and WT9036) rather than the standard single-letter scheme.1,2

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.
