For 1967 the Rebel name returned to AMC's lineup, replacing the Rambler Classic badge on the company's newly redesigned intermediate. AMC's own VIN key lists five engines for the car: a 232-cubic-inch six at 145 or 155 horsepower, a 290-cubic-inch V8 at 200, and a 343-cubic-inch V8 at 235 or 280 horsepower, the last figure the strongest engine offered that year. The Rebel name itself sat under three trim levels, 550, 770, and SST, with model digit 7 in the VIN covering the Rebel alongside the unrelated Rogue, SST-badged, DPL, and Marlin lines using the same digit for different models, meaning the model digit alone cannot tell a Rebel apart from those other 1967 AMC nameplates without also reading the accompanying body-style and engine-code positions in the VIN.1
Production figures for 1967 are thin: the only number this record can cite is 1,686 Rebel SST convertibles, every one of them an SST, a figure Wikipedia attributes to Richard Langworth's Complete Book of Collectible Cars rather than to a factory report this record has read directly. No total production count, coupe count, or sedan count for the 1967 Rebel line was found in any source consulted, so the record shows the convertible figure alone rather than implying a fuller picture of Rebel volume than the sources actually support.2
AMC's February 1967 price schedule lists a six-cylinder Rebel 550 two-door sport sedan at $1,863.15 and a six-cylinder Rebel SST two-door hardtop at $2,117.95, a roughly $255 gap between the plainest and sportiest trims before any V8 or options were added. Paint choice tracked that same trim hierarchy: the Rebel 770 and SST could be ordered in all 15 of AMC's 1967 colors, while the entry-level Rebel 550 was limited to 13, missing the two burgundy metallics, Flamingo Burgundy and Rajah Burgundy, that the pricier trims could have.3
Every 1967 Rebel shared a 114-inch wheelbase and 78.4-inch width regardless of engine or trim, running 197.0 inches long, 198.0 for the wagon, with hardtop and convertible bodies standing 53.5 and 54.8 inches tall respectively. Underneath, the transmission and axle chart shows real restrictions by engine: the four-speed manual was not available with the two-barrel 343 at all, while the 232 six and 290 V8 could each be paired with the overdrive, Flash-O-Matic automatic, four-speed, or Shift-Command console automatic, giving those two engines a noticeably wider range of gearbox choices than the milder 343 variant.
AMC's 1967 data book lists just one dress-up option specific to the sportier trims, an SST and DPL stripe available in white or red and keyed to interior color, white with white, tan, or blue interiors and red with red, black, or burgundy. A Car Life magazine test of a 1967 Rebel SST hardtop with the 343 V8 and automatic reportedly recorded a 9-second 0-60 mph time and a 110 mph top speed, figures Wikipedia summarizes secondhand; since the original magazine issue has not been read directly, the record carries that test result as an unpublished lead rather than a confirmed performance figure.2

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-22.
Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

The line total (95,170) and the eight body-style counts come from one uncited compilation (conceptcarz, read 2026-09-29); the total is stated by the page and is not summed here. Its SST convertible count equals the Langworth figure Wikipedia attributes. No AMC record of the 1967 Rebel line was found; automobile-catalog.com (HTTP 402) and autoevolution (HTTP 403) could not be read. An AMC production report or the Standard Catalog would give an independent check. Engine or trim splits were not found.
