The 1967 redesign gave the Barracuda its own styling on a new 108-inch wheelbase and three distinct bodies for the first time: fastback, hardtop coupe, and convertible. Over-Drive's specification summary states the new 383 V8 was offered only with the Formula S package, with front disc brakes mandatory and no three-speed manual available alongside it. Model-year production is printed as 62,534 by several period sources, 30,110 fastbacks, 28,196 hardtops, and 4,228 convertibles, while Sessler's production table instead totals 58,791 with its own six/V8 split by body; this record leads with the period figure and shows the Sessler lineage as a differently scoped count rather than reconciling the two.1,2,3

Four engines were catalogued for 1967: the 225 six at 145 hp, the 273 two-barrel at 180 hp, the 273 Commando four-barrel at 235 hp, and the new 383 four-barrel rated 280 hp at 4,200 rpm and 400 lb-ft at 2,400 rpm, available only with Formula S. The Commando's own torque figure carries an unresolved internal problem: Over-Drive's engine table lists 200 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm for the Commando, a number lower than the plain 273 two-barrel's own 260 lb-ft rating in the same table, which cannot be correct for the higher-output engine; this record does not record a torque figure for the Commando pending a primary specification sheet, rather than guessing which number was mistyped. The four-speed manual, available with V8 engines only, ran $179, and TorqueFlite cost $172 with the six and $181 with the V8.1,4

The six-cylinder hardtop's base price carries its own dispute: Over-Drive's production table lists $2,449, while Car Life's own road test prints $2,463 as the list price FOB factory for its hardtop six test car. Car Life's fastback V8 list price of $2,720 matches Over-Drive's figure for that body and engine exactly, so the hardtop discrepancy is not part of a broader pattern between the two sources and may instead reflect a price change between whenever Over-Drive's figure was set and Car Life's March 1967 test, or a different pricing basis; no reconciliation is made. Car and Driver's 383 test car, built up from a manufacturer's suggested retail price plus a long list of itemized options, excise tax, and dealer preparation and delivery, came to $3,578.15 as tested, including a mandatory $177.50 Formula S package and a $52.30 383 engine charge on top of it.1,4,5

Three period road tests give a spread of performance across the engine lineup. Car Life's 225-six hardtop, at 3,580 lb test weight with TorqueFlite and a 3.23:1 axle, ran 0-60 mph in 13.6 seconds and the quarter-mile in 19.4 seconds at 69.8 mph, topping out at 97 mph. The same magazine's 273 Commando Formula S fastback, heavier at 3,720 lb with a limited-slip 3.23:1 axle, cut that to 9.2 seconds to 60 and 16.9 seconds at 85.6 mph in the quarter, with a 118 mph top speed. Car and Driver's 383 Formula S car, at 3,725 lb with front discs and the same 3.23:1 limited-slip axle, ran 6.6 seconds to 60 and 15.4 seconds at 92 mph, braking from 80 mph in 280 ft at 0.76 g; Motor Trend's own 383 test that September, on Firestone Wide Ovals, recorded a slower 7.8 seconds to 60 but a nearly identical 15.5-second, 92 mph quarter-mile, a gap between the two 383 tests' 0-60 times that the file's own data does not explain.4,5,6

Series and body codes ran CB1-H (six) and CB2-H (V8) across bodies BH23 (hardtop), BH29 (fastback), and BH27 (convertible). Overall length ran 192.8 in and width 71.6 in across the tested bodies, with an 18-gallon fuel tank; test weights ranged from 3,280 lb for the hardtop six to 3,310 lb for the Formula S fastback and 3,299 lb for the 383 car, though these are individual test-car curb weights rather than a single specifications-sheet figure for each configuration.1,4,5

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-23.

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.

  • Buick Riviera A new 430 V-8 (360 hp, 475 lb-ft) replaced the Nailhead; 4,837 cars had the GS handling option.
  • Buick Skylark Gran Sport, GS and GSX A new 400 cu in V-8 made the Gran Sport the GS 400, joined by a 340 cu in GS 340 and a California GS coupe.
  • Buick Wildcat The new 430 V-8 (360 hp, 475 lb-ft) replaced the Nailhead.

  • Chevrolet El Camino SS No factory Super Sport El Camino is documented for this year; the record carries the host El Camino production as context.
  • Chevrolet Impala SS The SS427 (RPO Z24) arrives: 2,124 of about 76,000 Impala Super Sports.
  • Dodge Charger The first-generation fastback's second and last year: the 440 Magnum joined the options, and production fell to 15,788.
