For 1967 the Gran Sport took Buick's new 400-cu-in V-8, rated at 340 hp at 5,000 rpm and 440 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm, and the car was rebadged GS 400. Motor Trend tested it with both of the two transmissions offered, the new three-speed Super Turbine automatic and a four-speed manual, giving this year's record two parallel sets of performance figures rather than one.1

Production is given as 13,813 GS 400s in total, split into 1,014 coupes, 10,659 sport coupes, and 2,140 convertibles, alongside two smaller GS 340 lines numbered inside the separate Special V-8 series: 3,692 GS 340 sport coupes and 1,577 California GS coupes. This record's own production note adds that an uncited Wikipedia figure, fewer than 4,000 GS 340s sold, is at least consistent with the 3,692 sport-coupe count, though the note stops short of treating that agreement as confirmation. All Buick intermediate production together, across every series and body, is given as 174,777 for the year.2

Prices are documented for all four Gran Sport variants: the GS 400 two-door hardtop's MSRP is given as $3,019, the coupe at $2,956, the convertible at $3,167, and the GS 340 sport coupe at $2,845. The 400-cu-in V-8 is detailed down to its 4.040-by-3.900-inch bore and stroke and 10.25:1 compression, alongside its 340-hp, 440-lb-ft rating; the 340-cu-in V-8 standard in the GS 340 and California GS is rated 260 hp at 4,200 rpm and 365 lb-ft at 2,800 rpm in the Motor Trend figures this record uses, though this record's own engine note flags that Over-Drive instead places that same engine's power peak at 4,000 rpm rather than 4,200.1,2

Both GS 400 transmissions are documented as optional: the Super Turbine three-speed automatic and a floor-shifted four-speed manual. Motor Trend's testing shows the difference between them directly: the automatic car ran 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds and the quarter mile in 15.2 seconds at 93 mph, while the four-speed car, on a shorter axle with drum brakes and manual steering, ran 0-60 in 6.6 seconds and the same 15.2-second quarter mile but at a higher 95 mph. A detailed factory options sheet lists dozens of individual order codes down to the cent, from a $236.82 Super Turbine transmission and $184.31 four-speed manual through smaller items covering brakes, radios, seat belts, tinted glass, power accessories, wheel covers, and trim, several of them carrying fitment restrictions tied to specific seat types or other options.1

Nineteen exterior paint codes are charted for 1967, from Regal Black and Turquoise through Gold, and six GS 400-specific interior trim codes are documented, covering aqua, black, blue, light fawn, yellow, and red vinyl; this record's own interior note adds that TeamBuick's own 1967 legend explains the numbering behind those codes, with 190-series codes marking deluxe bucket seats, 180 a deluxe front bench without an armrest, and 160 a deluxe front bench with one. Identification detail includes the GS 400's 44600 series with its 44607, 44617, and 44667 body numbers, the GS 340's separate 43417 and California GS's 43407 inside the Special V-8's 43400 series, a decoded example VIN breaking Buick, series, body, year, plant, and production-number digits apart, and two engine codes, NR for the 400-cu-in, 340-hp, 10.25:1 GS 400 engine and NB for the 340-cu-in, 260-hp, 10.25:1 GS 340 engine. The GS 400's wheelbase is given as 115 in and overall length as 205.0 in, with curb weight given as 3,817 lb for the automatic car and 3,747 lb for the four-speed car in the same source.2,3,1

Coverage: Partial — researched sections are shown; missing ones are not yet sourced. Researched through 2026-09-22.

Every figure is labeled with how sure we are. Reported means a manufacturer, registry, or reference figure we cite but have not reconciled against factory records ourselves. Disputed means credible sources disagree and both are shown. Rows are separately scoped; don't add them together unless the note says they make up a total.
